20 Truths About Robot Hoover: Busted

The Best Robot Hoover

The best robot vacuum will vacuum and mop your floors without having to be involved. It will also leave clean. Its price is surprisingly low and high-end features (such as dirt detection) are a plus.

Be sure to regularly examine the brushes of your robot for tangled hair and large debris and wash them if required. Some models will also empty the onboard dustbin and deposit it in an additional bin located at the base. This reduces the amount fine dust released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 pro

The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the pricier Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've tested. They feature top-of-the-line motors that can produce up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. As with other premium iRobot models (including the top choice) they employ smart mapping technology to create precise floor plans and eliminate home-based obstacles like cords and furniture legs. They also feature carpet boost, a feature that increases the robot's power when it detects the presence of dirt on the carpet, allowing it cleaned up quickly.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests on floors that were bare and are especially adept at cleaning dog hair. However, they do have a few flaws however, which prevent them from being our top choice. One of the flaws of the Q5 is its navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's also prone to getting stuck on shoes and socks, and it couldn't navigate through rooms with a lot of people efficiently during our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that can see around corners.

It's still a great deal particularly if your home or office has a lot of bare flooring and you're looking to save some money. Additionally, it's quiet and can be used while you're at work or going to school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle that can be emptied by itself. If you want to change the mopping pad for a dry one in minutes.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into a sleek, compact package. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it quick to clean and effective at dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also comes with self-emptying dustbins with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the most efficient robot hoover for carpets, although it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensor technology that can avoid obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the structure of your home over time to provide better cleaning. You can change the schedule of cleaning and even customize zones through the well-designed app. It has a battery life that is comparable to other models.

It is possible to instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mop and extend them when it's in a carpeted room which prevents cross-contamination. The flex arm can be used to reach under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It doesn't perform as well on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During tests, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop that could complete the entire house with 66 percent of its battery left. It did a decent cleaning job on various rooms and floors with various flooring types, including certain area rugs. Its obstacle detection was superb, and it avoided fake dog turds, socks, shoes and bundles cables.

It's a bit more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however it offers superior suction, a dustbin on board that automatically emptys into its base, and it supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is something we haven't seen before on other robot vacuum/mop combination.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

This mop and vacuum combination is sleek and has a circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba model than the bulky models of the competitors. It's among our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The newest model from iRobot is its most advanced, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).

It's also the only robot vacuum or mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is thanks to the combination of high-tech sensors including a structured lighting system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mop mops.

As with other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, with an easy mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only issue is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This could be a concern in the mornings prior to work or during the night when you are trying to fall asleep.

It's also a bit expensive, but not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally impressive and attractive. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that's very capable, but it's more expensive and make more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with many advanced features that will let you get rid of your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine that is similar to Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically empty the vacuum's bin, refills the water tank, and washes and dry mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of an array of LIDAR and structured light to draw out floor plans and identify obstacles, making it more efficient than some of its premium competitors. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time hazards detection but this wasn't foolproof in our tests and was often confused with obstructions or power cords.

The vacuum has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vac works and alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home in accordance with the degree of dirt they tend to be.

For larger houses it's worth looking for one that has zone or spot cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean one particular area of your house by using the app or voice controls. If you have a lot of furniture, a stair-mode is also a good option. For  robot vacuum best  with busy schedules, a recharge feature and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to resume where it left off could be extremely useful.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more intelligent than its price suggests. It has a great vacuuming performance and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using a single pad and a reciprocating motion that is more efficient than most mop cleaners for robots that we've tried. It's also self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and an auto-emptying washable base.

The well-designed iRobot app guides you through an initial mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or set up the spot-cleaning. It can also be used to it to prioritize the most soiled areas for greater efficiency. The app also grants access to many features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It also has the ability to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It also has strong suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for hair of pets. You can also create a spot-cleaner that will thoroughly clean an area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD offers a sleeker, cheaper alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras appear like cute eyes. It does a great job vacuuming, however it is more likely to be stuck on low thresholds. It also has a higher noise than other top robot vacuums we have test. It also has a less intuitive app and a tiny base station that isn't able to double as an emptying bin.
